Epic Thrift, started out good, but went to *** in a recycled handbasket fast, the management and the owners didn't know what they were doing they hired subpar management that no other company would promote. That is why Epic Thrift went under. I have never quit a job but I have quit bosses.

I worked at Epic in a management position. I can and will say this yes there were bad apples, but truthfully the majority of employees were really awesome people to work with and for. As for a consumers product, hands down Epic Stores over Goodwill or Savers any day. The discount days were incredible the stores are cleaner and the selection was honestly higher class. The majority of employees are feeding their families too! Most of them enjoyed their jobs very much. After learning of the stores closing down, it upsets me to know they were all just unemployed like that. As for customers all that product went somewhere I would head to remaining open stores and hit them hard that product just sitting DOESNT benefit the community...and I personally would make a trip to the discount store .

My name is David Bray and I too was employed at Epic Thrift (Southern & McClintock in Tempe, AZ.) Despite my bad feelings toward corporate, this was hands down one of the best work environments ever. Awesome co-workers and the regulars that paid us a visit at the store were wonderful customers whom became wonderful friends. I miss everybody. As far as putting our thrift store up against any others, we win by first round knockout every time. Just ask the Goodwill that was across the street, we had them ready to tap out and relocate. If the only complaints you had was the flavor in music on seniors or veterens day, well then maybe you should of stayed across the street with the other whiners. As for corporate whom still hasnt paid me my last check (2 months has passed already). I want my friggin money!!!!!!

EPIC THRIFT STORES

Company treats their employees very badly. People get fired constantly. "Gregoria" needs to be fired!!! She is completely incompetent. However, so are all of the other "so called" Executives. The company is a total joke! While I did not personally work for the company, I know several people who have AND I have spoken with "Gregor." It is unbelievable how badly they treat their employees! My next step will be to report them to the Better Business Department!!! Vendors also want nothing to do with them. I, actually, love Thrift Stores, but will tell you right now, I will "never" buy anything from them! I hope they go out of business very soon!

I could not agree more. There is nothing worse than walking in to any store and listening to loud irritating music. Why don't they just go back to the good old elevator music at least that's relaxing

Epic Thrift Store Work Experience Review from Mesa, Arizona

My first job was at the very first epic thrift store when it opened. It was fine for awhile but then the managment was very unprofessional. I worked there for two years and never got a raise. They picked a 16 year old to be a supervisor because she was LDS(no offense but its true). And i was never offered a managment position because they only promoted their friends. On top of that, if you really think they are helping out veterans, your in denial. They only give ten cents a pound of bundles of clothes they make in the back. Ask for more information from them and they wont know what to say. Epic is unprofessional and the owner only cares about money. They wont even put the ac on low enough to cool the place down, and for living in arizona, its a must. I have never stepped foot in any epic thrift store since the day i quit. Stay away from this company and God bless the people who still work there!!

I worked at Epic for less than a year, as you can tell I could put up with the favoritism for that long, The infamous District manager Jim Sill "living the dream" wow if working for epic thrift is living the dream then you have low expectations !!! Broaden your horizon dude!!!

Hate to say that this company is no competition to goodwill..in fact it's no competition to the mom and pops store down the street . Greed Greed Greed, sorry they use the veterans as an excuse to make money

At first I liked Jim but then he was ***. Going behind employees back, talking them.

Favoring employees like Jim with Cary. I was suppose to work full time then it went to part time then maybe 4 hours a week. It was bull ***.

Then he put on smiley face but inside he thought you were nothing but low lives. Could not believe towards the end of them closeing they did not have the balls to pay all of there employees.

Epic Thrift Store - Shirt Review from Mesa, Arizona

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I am a frequent patron of the Epic store, located at the corner of Mckellips Rd., and Gilbert Rd., in Mesa, Az.. as I live like a block from the store. For about the last five weeks that I have gone in the store this young hispanic female shift manager has been being real rude to me. I had 2 shirts I wanted to purchase, both had a blue price tag, (blue was the color that was 50% off. While I shopped, one tag fell off of one of the shirts. The hispanic female refused to give the shirt at a discount. So I paid 1/2 for one, and full price for the other. Let it be noted that on numerous occasions I have seen people stealing, and I have gone to an employee, and told them, and they were caught. Whenever I donate something in the back of the store, I get told, "Hey get out of here, you can't be bacl here getting anything". I tell them I am donating, not taking. On May 19th, I pulled off the sidewalk on my bike that I ride to build up my respiratory, after a 1 year bout with cancer, and I started to adjust the front tire. I was I guess pretty close to their compactor, and I hear some young hispanic kid telling me, "Hey you can't be back here taking stuff". ,By no means was I taking anything. The hispanic female hollers, "that's it I am calling the police". I did nothing at anytime to the store or their property. The police came, accosted me, embarassed me, and ridiculed me for about 30 monutes. The cop tells me ok, they have no proof you did anything wrong, so it is your word against theirs, but they don't like you, so I am officially trespassing you from the store, or property. I never take anything, but there are no posted signs about tresspassing, or removal of dobated items is frowned on. I think, until Epic physically retrieves the items, they are for anyone. Their prices are outrageous on itens given to them, and if the can't fix an item they destroy it before they throw it away, by compacting it, or cutting power cords at an inch or two from the item. What gives them the right to do that instead of maybe letting someone else have it, who may be able to fix said item, or items. I am in process of suing then civally, after I retain counsel. WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE? Obe more thing, if something really gets donated, 95% of the time it does not get to tge salesfloor, due to employees taking it. Shame on you Epic, or should I call them Pathetic.

Your entire complaint doesn't make any sense partly because of your poor spelling, punctuation, and grammar. You will never convince me that the store doesn't have a specific area for people to drop off donations and I would be willing to bet it isn't in the back room where they sort through the donations or anywhere near the compactor.

You have a lot of really flimsy excuses for why you were in the areas of the store that you were in. I have worked in various thrift stores, and I do know that different homeless shelters put in requests for items that they are going to be needing, and when that happens the thrift stores set aside those items for the non-profit that needs them. You have no way of knowing that 95% of the donations never make it to the sales floor, and that the employees take the items. They might set some items aside but you can bet your bottom dollar they pay thrift store prices for them.

You complain about the high prices they charge for items donated to them, but apparently you don't know that thrift stores have to make enough money in the store to cover rent/mortgage, insurance, utilities, wages, etc. All of that stuff keeps going up in price for thrift store, just like for other retail stores. Being you are so unhappy with the store quit going there. I have yet to figure out why anybody would go to a thrift store of any kind more than once a month at the most.

You, YOURSELF, actually admitted, in a round about way that you do steal things from the store. Actually once somebody does drop items off at a thrift store, the items do belong to the thrift store, not to you. Furthermore, it isn't any of your business what they do with items that are donated to them. There are actual retail stores that do the same thing with returned merchandise that might have some kind of little flaw in it, when they could donate the items to thrift stores.

The problems you have are ones that you made for yourself. You sound like a spoiled brat and a trouble maker besides.

You might want to know that I have bachelor's degree. I was upset when I wrote it.

I dont care how many thrift stores you have worked in, but it does it does give me a clear picture of your intelligance, or lack there of. I have been a District Manager of Loss Prevention, for a major retail chain for over 25 years. C$learly you are a little slow.

I did not say in the back interior of the store, it happened out back of the Store, outside, and was not even near their merchandise. Epic sucks, I mean, the stuff is donated, and there prices are outrageous, and last but not least 98% of their employeea are of the hispanic persuasion, ssssssooooo?

Epic Thrift Store - Register Checkout Review from Newark, New Jersey

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I come to the Epic store in Tempe Arizona all the time. I loved this store/location until now I was in the checkout line while the lady in front of me was told an item had the wrong tag on it. The lady then said that is the tag in which was on the item when she picked it off the rack the man then said he was not able to sell her the item in which she purchased the other items and asked for a manager he replied with a horrible attitude and tone of voice "I am the manager" with a smirk on his face and also refused to give her the number to corporate. The lady left very unhappy. Then he starts checking me out and apologizes and adds (that black lady thinks this is the projects and she can just get tag's and switch them and get away with it. This is Tempe not south phoenix black ladys like that should stay in the "hood"). Oh lord did my heart sink hearing those words come out his mouth i always talk to this young man whenever i come to shop here and never portrayed him to be so hatred and racist. Me having half african american grand babies this really got to me and knowing this company has people like this running their place of business is mind blowing and very unprofessional. I was not going to say anything at all but after thinking about it for awhile and talking to people about their opinion i decided to write this review and plan on sharing this one social media and potentially calling the news station This is wrong and that young racist man has no business being a manager of a community thrift store every customer should be treated equally weather your Black, white, brown, blue or green this company needs to reevaluate there employee's and more importantly who they choose as managers.

Manager Stole My Brothers Phone!

My brother was there talking to a friend who worked there. She threatened him to call the police calling him all kinds of names including loiterer and *** which is rediculous. He is a good person and he was also shopping. She could have just asked him to leave. Then he realized he left his very expensive phone inside and she wouldn't let him inside to get it. She stole it for herself the Bit**! I want the corporate #. I wishshe would get fired when I complain. She is such a bitter hag. My brother wants his phone back!

You should have called the police.

I think the real question is how much, as a percentage of income, goes to the charities? I have heard that this is a for profit group that contributes a small percentage to the charities so they can appeal for donations under the guise of being a charity. I have not been able to confirm this on the internet.

You don't hav to i worked for epic for a while and the percentage that goes to charity is little to none

Guest

Here is the owners number 602 821 **** name is Bob He is ***

Guest

She should have just fired the worker your brother was talking to. It doesn't make sense that she would be angry at your brother and not at her employee.

Sounds more like your brother was hitting on or harassing a cashier and was asked to leave and when he wouldn't leave was threatened that the police would be called.

I personally don't like Epic, and have a few complaints which is why I'm checking out their complaints, and happened to come across yours. Don't destroy a companies reputation just because your pissed and embarrassed that you (or your made up brother) left a phone there.
